The House
Small enough that the coast is still the loudest thing here.
Aster House sits above the water on the Big Sur coast, built around the view rather than in front of it. Twenty-two rooms, one restaurant, one set of trails, nothing more, so that everything is attended to.
Days here have very little structure. A treatment before the fog lifts, lunch when you want it, a walk that ends where the land does. You are never queuing for anything, because there is never a crowd.

Every room is turned toward the water.
There is no back of house here, no interior wing, no compromise room. All twenty-two look out over the Pacific, and the rooms were kept quiet, natural materials, low furniture, deep glass, so that the horizon does the decorating.

The Table
The restaurant is on site, so dinner is never a drive.
On this stretch of coast, eating well usually means getting back in the car at dusk. Not here. The kitchen is part of the house, a few steps from your room, and it keeps the same hours as the light.

Trails
Private paths that start where the house ends.
The walking trails belong to Aster House. You do not share them with a parking lot, a tour or a trailhead line. Step out the door, follow the ridge, and the only thing you are likely to meet is weather coming in off the Pacific.
Some guests walk them every morning before the restaurant opens. Some walk them once, at dusk, and remember it for years.
